Whilst I agree that Quantum is a good tab package, it may not be the best for ALL types of analysis.
I have much the same background as yourself, but feel that some tab packages have simply not moved on.
I would not use any tab package (now that I have used one) that cannot take code lists etc directly from a spreadsheet and automate analysis directly from those spreadsheets. This means that less experienced people than me can do the "typing" element of spec writing as well as having the useful tools a spreadsheet has.
If you are doing straightforward average analysis maybe Quantum is best, but I specialise in complex work where automation is important.
