You are right. It is kind of funny, and, after revieiwing our remarks, it does come off as a little presumptious.

This said, from my experience, researchers make very few mistakes, at least from a technical stanpoint, and these are usually minor. The bulk of the mistakes we see come from misapplication or invalid analysis, because people don't know what they are getting or try to force information out of the data which wasn't there to start with.

The overwhelming majority of mistakes related to research are direclty caused by the client themselves. The irony here is that they alway blame the researcher.
