It is probably not necessary - have gotten a 25% response without it, from hotel guests in a mail survey.

If your prize is a coupon for service from the hotel chain, that will select for people who intend to come back and use it - so in my mind such a prize will detract from a satisfaction survey's validity, while it would not detract from a survey done for other purposes.
