I use the QPS Command Language which allows you to store code lists in sheets within a workbook. In your QPSCL spec you then reference the sheet, so that if codes are added, it automatically updates your spec.

It is really advantageous when you want a lookup, such as where you want to code retail outlets into regions. All you do is maintain the spreadsheet and the lookup automatically updates your spec.

I find on continuous projects making changes to complex specs whether they are written in Quantum, QPS or whatever is time-consuming, prone to error etc. With QPS you do the thinking up front and everything automates from there.
