A hall test, also known as a hallway test or haul test because you haul people off the street, is basically an intercept concept test method. It has been around for at least 80 years and was quite popular in major cities.

The techinque was very popular with ad agencys. The would put creative samples in the hallways of thier offices and troop pedestrians through for an incentive to poll thier opinon and reaction to various ads. It was also popular in cosmetics, fragrances and fashion (particularly shoes, handbags, and hats).
