I am working on a project where we did mailings to 1500 randomly selected people. About 400 responded. My response rate was about 27%. Is that considered a reasonable rate? Can I resport the margin of error on the sample of 400 or are they no longer considered random since so few people responded. P.S. the topic is about unsafe sex practices, so I know a small response rate is significant, but I have no idea what range I should shoot for. Any ideas?
