Well, I have always feared the day I'd have to defend my position from Stan.
When I mentioned being a proponet of having non-qualifed people complete the interview, I tried to qualify it in such as way that these respondents would skip the body of survey and just collect screeners and demos.
Asking all the screeners often allows for better incidence calculations (you don't have to make assumptions). Asking the demos helps you see to degree non-response is a factor.
I'm an old CATI programmer, and, probably should not have assumed that adding a skip pattern to an online script is as easy as it is for a CATI script. For that I appologize.
However, I would suggest that the OVERALL labor costs for conducting a telephone research project are much higher than those of an internet suvey.
It all comes down to budget. The 'nice-to-know' information comes at a cost, and the client ultimately has to make the trade-off.
As much as I hate the Colorado Avalance, I do appreciate Scott's support on this issue. Actually, I kind of think we are all on the same page here.
