I routinely try to talk clients out of using screeners. They say but I'm only interested in such and such a type of person. How can they know that if they never collect data on other types of people to compare against.

Daniel,

Hmmmm.... That's an interesting approach. Are there times when you do recommend screening, or do you always recommend against it? A few examples come to mind...

1. If you were trying to get a political candidate elected, would you interview people who were not registered to vote?

2. If you were doing research on CD-Rom drives, would you interview people that didn't own or use computers?

3. If you were doing research for a high-end investment firm, would you screen for a certain income level or portfolio value?

4. What about security screens? That is, not accepting interviews from employees of market research companies, or companies that compete with the client.

5. If you were doing research for a daycare facility, would you screen for people with children, or at least planning to have them?

I hope I don't sound like I'm trying to be a smart *s* here. I'm not. I'm really interested in knowing what value there would be in interviewing "non-qualified" people. Thanks.
