NFO is now doing just that. It has created a new entity called InsightExpress. The parent company provides a ready-made panel of 700,000 people (with unknown number with e-mail data) plus they use a sister company, Engage Technologies, to deliver banner ads to specific groups to "recruit" according to specs.
I believe e research will not supplant traditional research, but supplement the toolset we all use.
