In addition, to some already posted great comments, I'd like to add that a professional market research firm also brings project management to the table.
Few novices would have the ability or the desire to coordinate a complicated project across multiple sites, with various stakeholders, over an extended time period, with changing requirements, with in-depth deliverables, etc.
