I agree with Stan. If those services meet your needs, then use them.
Our services are geared towared high-end custom surveys. Stuff free do-it-yourself packages can't handle. In fact, the $25k - $30k per year survey packages can't handle a lot of the stuff we do. If they did, we'd buy them!
I'd be interested to hear more about the pricing you've encountered: "in 1000's" How many thousands, and for what? You may be being overcharged.
