Banner Ad / Online Survey Combinations

Posted by Michael Branham on June 28, 1998 at 08:24:53:

Just saw a novel idea on Yahoo. It combines online advertising and surveying.

New Fat-free Pringles (made with Olestra) has a banner ad that asks 'Do you use artificial sweeteners without reservation?' with a 5 point scale (yes=1, no=5) on the banner and a 'submit' button.

When I checked one of the boxes and hit submit, I arrived at a page that thanked me for my participation in their survey and asked for my name/address so they could send a free can of Fat-free Pringles as a reward.

This is the most unique type of banner advertising I've seen because it combines several aspects of online marketing and research. Through this single banner 'ad', Pringles is able to create awareness for their new product, collect survey data, elicit a 'click-through', offer a free trial, build a database of individuals with an 'interest' in their new product, and develop demographic profiles.
